Presentazione, La Venaria Reale

The Venaria Reale complex is a unique environmental and architectural whole with an extraordinary appeal, an immense, varied, spectacular estate where the visitor is inevitably enveloped by magical atmospheres in a context of cultural attractions and multiple leisure pursuits: performances, events, concerts and outstanding exhibitions alternate with entertainment, direct, intimate contact with nature, relaxation, sporting pastimes and cultural food and wine events.

Dettagli, La Venaria Reale

Venaria Reale is the old town centre or “Borgo”, a treasure trove of historical events and happenings; it is the imposing baroque Reggia or Palace which, with its vast Gardens, is one of the most significant examples of the magnificent architecture and art of the 17th and 18th centuries; it is the Park of La Mandria, one of the largest environmental havens in Europe where numerous species of wild and domestic animals live in complete freedom and the home of an important architectural heritage. The new splendour and superb quality of the restored Reggia, the immensity and beauty of the Gardens and the natural area of the Park allow visitors to spend their time enjoying new sensations and different experiences, discovering a modern conception of “taste”, leisure” and the “art of living” that is within everyone’s reach. The Reggia of Venaria Reale and the Royal residence of La Mandria have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Restored to the baroque magnificence that inspired it when it was built in the mid 17th century for duke Carlo Emanuele II di Savoia, the Reggia of Venaria Reale has become a symbol of modernity and culture once again. Its inauguration, in October 2007, after two centuries of abandon and decay, and eight years of intense restoration, was a essential stage of the project to recover Venaria Reale: promoted by the European Union and sponsored by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and by Regione Piemonte, it has been described as the most important project for the rehabilitation of a cultural asset in Europe. In the first year since it opened to the public, Venaria Reale has welcomed approximately 950,000 visitors. Conceived as the new court of contemporary leisure, in line with other great international institutions, the Reggia di Venaria will become a centre of cultural entertainment, where the Italian and international public can enjoy the pleasures of art, history and architecture in an extraordinary setting. The enormous palace, which has a surface area of over 80,000 square metres, contains some of the most outstanding examples of European baroque architecture: the enchanting Salone di Diana, designed by Amedeo di Castellamonte, the solemnity of the Galleria Grande and the chapel of Sant’Uberto, and the immense complex of the Scuderie, designed by the 17th century genius, Filippo Juvarra, the sumptuous decorations and the ingenious installations of life at court created by Peter Greenaway, provide an ideal frame for the Theatre of History and Magnificence, the exhibition about the Savoia family that accompanies the visitor for almost 1 and a half kilometres, on the ground floor and piano nobile of the Reggia.
